I was invited by Guitless Foodie for Thali Restaurant review. Initially I thought I will give a miss since I am foodie I couldn’t miss out this special thali.
Chef Kunal introduced us to the making of Grand Thali and Owner of Tip Top Plaza , Mr.Shah graciously welcomed us and gave us insights on history of Tip top Plaza .Grand Thali is one of its kind where delicious “Fusion Thali “ is served with unlimited portions. It’s an assortment of mix snacks, starters , main course and desserts that leaves you craving for more.
The supper started with farsan like Cheese corn ball , kapoli wada, dahi wada, masal khaman followed by veggies like Paneer kadai, Alu palak rajwadi, Bharleli wangi, Kaju Wal ,then rice and dal varieties like dal fry,Gujarati dal,Gujarati kadhi, Kesariya pulao, steam rice, plain and masala khichdi. For Indian breads, one can select from pooris, phulka, parathas .
Keeping in mind with our young generation, fusion mantra includes Arabiata Pasta, Veg. supreme pizza, Veggies in Green, Schezwan noodles .
You will notice marwari and gujarati’s cuisines lots of ghee is used.The Indian breads are dipped in desi ghee. That’s how is their speciality so weight conscious people leave your diet at home and savour this Grand thali. Some Extra spicy go for lasuni chutney and pickles.It’s a whole platter of chutneys from tangy to sweet taste .
Last but not the least my meal is incomplete without dessert.Save some space in your tummy for the last item on the menu : Akhrot halwa, Rabdi, hot gulab jamun, Kolkata’s favourite Rosogulla that completes the Thali . Waiters here rush to notice and refill your thali every time you’ve finished a bowl or licked off a dish unless you are tired! Try not to skip the buttermilk as it’s freshly-prepared and serves as a decent digestive along this vast dinner.
