Restaurant Review: Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra

Most of us have fond memories of food from our childhood.Whether  it is mom’s homemade  chocolate or  soup recipe , food has a way of transporting us back to the past.  Taking a notch further Jiggs Karla says we serve memories , not just food.  As rightly said by Jiggs Kalra, Masala Library wants  to deliver food that customers have never ever tried before. Their main focus is to capture century old traditions and long lost essence of recipes. Every state of India is represented in this  amazing à la carte.  Here both vegetarian, as well as non-vegetarian, can celebrate as Chef has a wide spread of delicacies on the menu.

The Restaurant style is simple , very spacious and well- lit and the ambience is amazing. It is situated on the ground floor, decorated in retro fashion with gold and brown color walls reminiscence progressive Indian fare.  As soon as I entered, I was escorted to our table, where Chef greeted us warmly and made us comfortable.  Since there was some time to start our dinner preview, I ordered SPICED UP  which is freshly muddled cardamom and black pepper with orange juice honey and bitters and whiskey shaken in ice and served in an old-fashioned glass topped up with whiskey and orange fluffy cream sprinkled with black pepper on top. A perfect drink to start off my Gastronomical Journey.

Also don’t miss LYCHEE MARTINI – which is a blend of lychee juice shaken in ice with vodka, vanilla syrup and served in a chilled martini glass garnished with a lemon swirl . It soothes your mind and soul and a great starter drink.  When in scorching heat, stop global warming ,I need ice for my martini.

The legendary soup we have got STEAMED PATRANI BOCCONCINI- steamed bocconcini predominantly flavored with coriander served along with lemon coriander broth by side . It has got an amazing taste and perfect fusion of bocconcini  and coriander leaf and lemon. It leaves you craving for more.

FRESH CHENNA BHALLA CHAAT – I haven’t tried Bhalla chaat but this is one to die for. It is fresh milk dumplings soaked in creamy yogurt stuffed with sweet and sour almond and date chutney served along with crispy okra to garnish.

Next starter in line : PINDI CHANA AND PHILLY TIKKI – The name itself says everything; soft spicy tikki made of Pindi chana stuffed with Philadelphia cheese served along with masala corn rings and onion chutney to garnish. It was cooked to perfection ,delicious and tasty.

PAN TOSSED MASALA SHROOMS – Normally I don’t prefer mushrooms until and unless it is cooked well. These are the exotic mushrooms  cooked in truffle oil and cream finished with pepper and dill crust served on the bed of truffle haze. The mushrooms and spices blended well and have exotic flavors. I really loved the preparation and the presentation is amazing.

For the main course – it was TANDOORI CHAAP SOY RAARHYA- famous Delhi street food, chunks of soya bean cooked in tandoor served along with minced soya bean cooked in Indian spices with pea pops to garnish. The flavors and soy mixture was cooked well and had a distinct taste. It’s healthy and tastes great as well.

For all those who are waiting for desserts, you won’t be disappointed!

JALEBI CAVIAR- its molecular gastronomy pack jalebi ( the dessert made of refined flour) in the form of caviar served along with rabri (condensed milk) topped up with saffron foam . It is ultimate Jalebi dessert. All the combinations are perfect and I am sure you will die for one more.

RAS MALAI TRES LECHES –Although I have tasted Ras malai many times but this one is something different. There are three layers of ras malai (reduced milk cottage cheese) stuffed with apple cream served along with saffron milk with almond and pistachio shavings garnished with caramel glaze . Whoaaa This sounds crazy isn’t ?  Yes, it is one of the best Ras Malai I ever had and not only just preparation but the taste and presentation too up to the mark. It just made my day.

I am sure Chef’s here will definitely make your smile wider with their innovative and traditional recipes and bring home memories filled with joy and laughter.
